Create custom LLDP Profile elements

LLDP Profile elements define settings for LLDP announcements and the type-length-values (TLVs) that the NGFW Engine announces.

There is one default LLDP Profile element. If the default element meets your needs, it is not necessary to create a custom LLDP Profile element.

Steps

  1. Select Configuration.
  2. Browse to Other Elements > Engine Properties > LLDP Profiles.
  3. Right-click LLDP Profiles, then select New > LLDP Profile.
  4. Configure the settings, then click OK.

Use this dialog box to define settings for LLDP announcements and the type-length-values (TLVs) that the NGFW Engine announces.

General tab
Name The name of the element.
Transmit Delay

Specifies the time interval between transmissions of LLDP advertisements. The value of this option is used with the value of the Hold Time Multiplier option to calculate the time to live value for packets.

The default value is 30 seconds.

Hold Time Multiplier

Specifies the number of time intervals that remote neighbors should consider a previously received LLDP advertisement valid. The value of this option is used with the value of the Transmit Delay option to calculate the time to live value for packets.

The default value is 4.

Category

(Optional)

Includes the element in predefined categories. Click Select to select a category.
Comment

(Optional)

A comment for your own reference.

TLV

The name of the type-length-value (TLV).

  • Chassis ID — The MAC address of the first Ethernet port
  • Port ID — The name of the interface in the format 'ifname <name>'
  • Port Description — The name of the interface
  • Time to Live — The period of time for which LLDP advertisements should be stored in the cache of neighboring LLDP-compliant devices. This value is automatically calculated based on the values of the Transmit Delay and Hold Time Multiplier options. When you use the default values for the Transmit Delay and Hold Time Multiplier options, the Time to Live value is 121.
  • System Name — The name of the NGFW Engine or the node in the NGFW Engine cluster in the SMC.
  • System Description — Operating system details about the NGFW Engine, such as operating system name, operating system version, and architecture.
  • System Capabilities — A bit-map of the enabled capabilities of the interface as router, repeater, and other.
  • Management Address — The IP addresses of the control interfaces.
Enabled

When selected, the NGFW Engine announces the corresponding TLV.

The following TLVs are always enabled:

  • Chassis ID
  • Port ID
  • Port Description
  • Time to Live
Value Shows how the value of the TLV is determined.
Comment Shows a description of the TLV.
